Single-Ended Beam Load Cell FAQs
How to Choose the Right Single-Ended Beam Load Cell
When selecting a single-ended beam load cell, keep these points in mind:
Capacity: Add up everything the cells will carry — the platform or vessel itself, the maximum product weight, and any shock or dynamic loading — and consider how the load is distributed, since real loads are rarely shared evenly across cells. Choose the capacity from the manufacturer's specifications for your actual mounting arrangement rather than dividing the total evenly by the number of load cells.
2. Material & Environment
Alloy steel: Excellent for dry industrial environments, very common on floor and pallet scales.
Stainless steel: Better for washdown, outdoor, corrosive, food, and chemical environments.
3. IP Rating & Sealing
IP65–IP67: Adequate for many indoor industrial uses with occasional splashing or dust.
IP69K / Hermetically sealed: Recommended for high-pressure washdown, constant moisture, or harsh chemical exposure.
4. Legal-for-Trade Requirements
For commercial applications, choose models that are NTEP certified in the capacity range you need. The complete scale system still has to be approved, but you must start with compliant load cells.
5. Mounting & Assemblies
Use the proper mounting hardware to control uplift, side load, and thermal expansion. The right assembly improves safety and accuracy and reduces installation time.
